Nickelback downloads jump over 500% after Trump tweets song clip

Streams and downloads of Nickelback’s 2005 song Photograph jumped significantly after President Trump tweeted out a doctored video featuring the song.

Trump tweeted out a clip of the song’s music video on Oct. 2 edited to show Nickelback’s lead singer Chad Kroeger holding up a picture featuring former Vice President Joe Biden, his son Hunter Biden, a man labeled “Ukraine gas exec.,” and an unlabeled fourth man.

The video was removed from the tweet the next day because of a copyright complaint from Warner Music Group. In the two days following the tweet, though, online streaming of the song increased 38% to 772,000 streams, according to Yahoo News. Digital downloads of the song jumped 569%, though the song was only downloaded about 1,000 times.

Trump tweeted out the video as he battles with House Democrats to push focus from his dealings with Ukraine to the former vice president’s actions in the country under the Obama administration.
