Gray says Sulaimon Brown was qualified

D.C. Mayor Vince Gray is defending the job qualifications of the man who’s trying to bring down his administration.

Gray stood by Sulaimon Brown’s resumé Tuesday to demonstrate that Brown’s $110,000-a-year city government job wasn’t an underhanded deal.

“The man worked at three different audit firms,” Gray told The Washington Examiner.

Brown has said he was paid by Gray’s aides and was offered a job in the Gray administration if he would stay in last year’s mayoral race to hound then-Mayor Adrian Fenty. Brown was fired after a few weeks on the job and quickly accused Gray and his people of making — and breaking — the deal.

D.C. Councilman David Catania’s asserted Monday that Brown’s only evidence was the fact that he had been hired in the first place, given Brown’s erratic behavior at the hearing.

Gray opened a news conference Tuesday afternoon with a prepared statement about Brown.

“I was the one that called for an investigation,” Gray told reporters.

“There is no merit to the allegations.”
