‘I’ll call your bluff any day’: AOC disputes Trump’s impeachment claim

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to President Trump’s claim that she and Democrats support impeachment because they think he will be reelected in 2020.

“Mr. President, you’re from Queens. You may fool the rest of the country, but I’ll call your bluff any day of the week,” the New York Democrat said Sunday. “Opening an impeachment inquiry is exactly what we must do when the President obstructs justice, advises witnesses to ignore legal subpoenas, & more.”

The freshman congresswoman’s response came after Trump said Sunday that the pair were in agreement on thinking he would likely be reelected in 2020.

“I agree, and that is the only reason they play the impeach card, which cannot be legally used!” the president said in response to Ocasio-Cortez asserting Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that Democrats need to elect a progressive as their presidential nominee in 2020. Otherwise they would have a “real risk” of losing the election, she claimed.

“I think that we have a very real risk of losing the presidency to Donald Trump if we do not have a presidential candidate that is fighting for true transformational change in the lives of working people in the United States,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

While Ocasio-Cortez has called for impeachment inquiries to begin against the president, Trump has generally avoided fights with Ocasio-Cortez, who has made a name for herself as an outspoken progressive.

Trump praised Ocasio-Cortez in April for her assertion that the Veterans Administration is not broken.

“Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is correct, the VA is not broken, it is doing great. But that is only because of the Trump Administration. We got Veterans Choice & Accountability passed,” Trump said.

Ocasio-Cortez was one of the first 60 Democrats in the House that supports impeaching Trump.
