A high school graduate in Alabama would have missed his commencement ceremony if it weren’t for his boss and his quick-thinking co-workers.
Timothy Harrison got a job at a Waffle House in Center Point, Alabama, in the weeks leading up to graduation. He asked if he could have the night of May 27 off to attend the ceremony.
“Of course, it’s your big day,” his supervisor, Cedric Hampton, remembered telling him.
Fast forward to the big night and Hampton was confused when Harrison showed up for his shift wearing his uniform instead of a cap and gown.

Harrison explained that he did not have a way to get across town to the graduation venue for Woodlawn High School, nor did he have tickets for his family since he did not attend all of his senior activities after classes ended, according to Hampton’s Facebook post.
The restaurant staff sprang into action.
Hampton ordered Harrison to go home and get his graduation paperwork and call the school to get his cap and gown, he said on Facebook.
While Harrison’s co-worker Shantana Blevins drove him to the school to get the graduation gear, Hampton drove to a clothing store with Chasadee Brown and Patricia Richardson, two other employees at the Waffle House, according to WVTM.
The staff dressed Harrison in the shirt, tie, and slacks they bought for him when they all returned to the restaurant.
When they finished, Blevins drove him to the ceremony’s venue. They made it in time, but Blevins had no ticket for the ceremony. She waited in the parking lot until it was over so she could drive Harrison home after he got his diploma.
“He’s a fine young man,” Hampton said. “He’s a hard worker, very polite. It’s the least we could do for him.”
