Ohio mayor suggests ice fishing leads to prostitution

A mayor in Ohio suggested that allowing city residents to ice fish may pave the way to prostitution.

Hudson Mayor Craig Shubert made the comment during a city council meeting on Tuesday evening, WOIO News reported.

“Additionally, if you open this up to ice fishing, while on the surface it sounds good, then what happens next year?” Shubert can be heard asking in a video posted to Twitter by Amanda Weinstein, the wife of Democratic Ohio state Rep. Casey Weinstein.

WHAT WOULD REALLY HAPPEN IF DC LEGALIZED PROSTITUTION?

“Does someone come back and say, ‘I want an ice shanty on Hudson Springs Park for X amount of time?’ and if you then allow ice fishing with shanties, that leads to another problem,” Shubert said. “Prostitution. And, now you got the police chief and the police department involved.”

Ice shanties are used on frozen lakes to provide people with shelter as they go ice fishing. They can range from small tents to tiny trailers.

“Just data points to consider,” Shubert said. Another councilman can be heard saying that this is why he is “not in favor of shanties.”

In September, Shubert demanded five members from the Hudson Board of Education resign, claiming child pornography was being found in certain coursework distributed to students in the Hudson City School District.

Parents said several writing prompts in student coursework had been taken from the book 642 Things to Write About, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Examples included prompts that told students to “write a sex scene you wouldn’t show your mom” and to “rewrite the sex scene from above into one that you’d let your mom read.”
