Oil price drops below $84 a barrel

Oil prices tumbled Tuesday on further signs of an economic slowdown in China.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange:

Benchmark crude fell $2.08 to finish at $83.91 per barrel.

Gasoline fell 1.25 cents to end at $2.7469 a gallon.

Heating oil fell 2.95 cents to finish at $2.7195 a gallon.

Natural gas dropped 14.6 cents to end at $2.7370 per 1,000 cubic feet.

On the ICE Futures exchange in London:

Brent crude fell $2.35 to finish the day at $97.97 per barrel.
