A runner ignores the heat and jogs along Oregon Avenue in Northwest Washington Monday. The thermometer hit 99 degrees to start off August, after July broke records as the hottest month on record. The temperature reached at least 90 degrees the last two weeks of July, with an average temperature of 84.5 degrees — and more is on the way. The forecast is for a week to 12 days of temperatures around 90 degrees or more.
