Annapolis police have arrested a man accused of raping and sexually abusing his stepdaughter for more than a decade as well as sexually abusing the girl?s childhood friend.
The victim, now 16, told police her stepfather, 46, of Taylor Avenue, began sexually abusing her and a friend in the summer of 1999.
The abuse occurred “so many times over so many years that itbecame ?normal,?” to the victims, according to charging documents.
The Examiner is withholding the suspect?s name to protect the victims? identities.
The stepdaughter said she was 7 years old when the abuse began and 12 when the suspect raped her for the first time in the summer of 2004. The last time her stepfather raped her was Jan. 21, before her mother found out about the abuse, according to the charging documents.
The suspect also is accused of abusing his stepdaughter?s friend, who was 10 years old, at their apartment on Marcs Court in Annapolis.
The friend told police the suspect said, “Everyone does it” the first time he tried to rape her in 1999. The stepdaughter said she tried to pull the suspect off her friend, but someone came home, and he stopped.
The friend said he repeatedly sexually abused her, often at the same time he abused the stepdaughter, until she moved in June 2000, according to charging documents.
When the friend threatened to tell her mother about the abuse, “he grabbed her hair and said he had a baseball bat and would be ready if her mother came after him,” according to charging documents.
The suspect was arrested Thursday and is being held at the county Detention Center with no bond. He is charged with first- and second-degree rape, sex offense and incest, among other charges.
