Eli Manning gives double middle fingers on live TV

Night owls watching Monday Night Football saw Eli Manning flipping two birds live on the air.

The former quarterback for the New York Giants recalled a 9-year-old Philadelphia Eagles fan giving him double middle fingers while making disparaging remarks about Manning’s mother and brother. Manning recreated the gesture on live television as he was telling the story, which ESPN did not censor.

Manning later apologized for the double middle fingers.

“Earlier I gave the double bird. I’m sorry. I guess that’s frowned upon,” Manning said on ESPN2′s Monday Night Football Manningcast. “That’s what a 9-year-old did to me. I thought I could do it back.”

Some applauded the gesture, dubbing Manning a “hero,” while others mocked Manning’s apology.

“‘I’d like to apologize… to absolutely nobody.'” – @EliManning,” tweeted football player Will Compton.
