The Atlantic cover story calls for Trump’s impeachment

The upcoming March cover of the Atlantic calls for the impeachment of President Trump.

A photo of the cover, which was posted to Twitter on Thursday, shows the word “Impeach” across the front in big red letters. The subhead reads: “It’s time for Congress to judge the president’s fitness to serve.”

The article was written by senior editor at the Atlantic Yoni Appelbaum and was published online Thursday.

In the piece, he argues that in order to rein in Trump, who he claims is “undermining American ideals,” Congress needs to start the impeachment process.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and other Democrats in Congress have said that any calls for impeachment, now that the Democratic Party has retaken control of the lower chamber, are premature as the investigations are ongoing and would be seen as an overreach.

Appelbaum said the wait is unnecessary.

“With a newly seated Democratic majority, the House of Representatives can no longer dodge its constitutional duty,” Appelbaum said in his piece. “It must immediately open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump, and bring the debate out of the court of public opinion and into Congress, where it belongs.”
