FBI Director Christopher Wray is set to speak with top Republicans over their subpoena for a document related to an alleged “criminal scheme” involving President Joe Biden during his vice presidency.
Wray is scheduled to speak privately with House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) on Wednesday about the Republicans’ investigation. The call will take place at 1:30 p.m., the Washington Examiner has learned.

Tensions have simmered between Wray and Republicans after the FBI director refused to hand over an internal law enforcement document that Republicans believe will expose a “criminal scheme” tied to Biden and an unnamed “foreign national.”
The FBI has refused to hand over the document as they claim it contains unsubstantiated intelligence. The agency claims that Comer and Republicans have needlessly escalated the situation.
“The FBI remains committed to cooperating with the Committee in good faith. In a letter to Chairman Comer earlier today, the FBI committed to providing access to information responsive to the Committee’s subpoena in a format and setting that maintains confidentiality and protects important security interests and the integrity of FBI investigations,” the FBI said in a statement Tuesday.
Comer, meanwhile, claims that Wray and the FBI are stalling, and has moved to hold Wray in contempt of Congress.
“He was given three weeks to produce a document and go into detail on what exactly they did to investigate the validity of the document. But thus far, he won’t even admit that they had the document,” Comer said in an appearance on Fox News Tuesday. “[Wray] has given us the runaround for three weeks. He is just stalling.”

Earlier this month, Comer sent the agency a letter claiming “whistleblower disclosures” showed that the FBI and Justice Department were in “possession” of an FD-1023 form that describes an “alleged criminal scheme” involving Biden.
Comer wrote the May 3 letter sent to Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland with Grassley, who is also investigating Biden family finances linked to China and Ukraine.
