P.G. County Council goes online

Prince George’s County soon will begin to stream live video of County Council and District Council meetings, another measure in a series of efforts to improve the council’s visibility.

Council Chairwoman Ingrid Turner, D-Bowie, announced the new video service Wednesday morning on NewsChannel 8’s NewsTalk program. Video will be available to watch online beginning July 1, she said.

The news is a welcome one for Prince George’s County residents, who are unable to keep an eye on the goings-on of the county government unless they’re able to attend council meetings in person.

Councils and boards in the District, as well as Montgomery and Fairfax counties, are already able to watch their local government functions on the Internet.

Prince George’s council committee meetings still won’t be available online, officials said.
