The View co-host Abby Huntsman called the New York Times’ article about an allegation of sexual misconduct lodged against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh that left out crucial details “sloppy” and “lazy.”
The New York Times reported on Saturday, which was adapted from an upcoming book by reporters Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, that one of Kavanaugh’s classmates at Yale University said he made inappropriate sexual contact with a female student.
However, after the article blew up and presidential candidates began calling for Kavanaugh’s impeachment, the outlet added an editor’s note that says in part, “The female student declined to be interviewed and friends say she does not recall the episode.”
Huntsman was very critical of the significant detail being left out of the article at the time of its original publication.

“When you talk about journalistic integrity and why you look at the American public on media, and their views on it, why it is so low — I grew up watching my dad read the New York Times and I would read it with him, and it was a place where I knew there was sourcing at least beyond one name,” Huntsman stated. “Now we’re in this place where there isn’t a difference many times between tabloid news and a New York Times article, and that to me is really sad and frankly it plays right into the president’s hands.”
She continued, “New York Times, congratulations. If the president gets reelected, you are helping him get there because when you write pieces like this. It’s sloppy and it’s lazy, and you have not one name in there that was actually directly involved in anything that happened.”
This was the fourth woman to publicly accuse Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. The three others came forward at the time of his appointment and confirmation to the Supreme Court.
