PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Six nominees for the board of Rhode Island’s economic development agency aren’t likely to be considered by the Senate before the General Assembly adjourns for the year.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY’-fee) has nominated six people for the board of the Economic Development Corp., which is in disarray after the collapse of former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s video gaming company. The board in 2010 approved a $75 million loan guarantee for 38 Studios.
A Senate spokesman says the nominees will likely be considered in a special legislative session. The General Assembly was aiming to finish its business Tuesday evening.
Several board members resigned and Chafee asked others to step down, saying he wanted a fresh start.
The board has 12 appointed members. Its next meeting is June 25.
