Live in D.C.’s Fifth Police District and plan on being away from home for a summer vacation? Police officers in that district are offering home checks for the first time. They’re encouraging residents to call with the dates of their vacations and to provide a local contact person. Commander Andy Solberg said that although they cannot make any guarantees about the safety of the residences, officers will ride by the homes to check for signs of trouble.
