Expo seeks to prepare people for disasters

Families and individuals interested in learning how to prepare for disasters are encouraged to attend a Personal Preparedness Public Safety Expo in Marriottsville.

The Nov. 1 event will offer demonstrations, exhibits and giveaways and feature representatives from the Community Emergency Response Network, Maryland National Guard, Maryland Emergency Management Agency and several Howard County departments.

Parents can watch their children dial 9-1-1 on a simulated system and see if they can answer simple questions posed by the dispatch operator.

The free expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the James N. Robey Public Safety Training Center, 2200 Scott Wheeler Drive.

Howard County’s Department of Fire and Rescue Services is using this event to kick off Community Readiness Week, which runs from Nov. 1 to 7.
