No 2020 challenge to Trump? John Kasich signs with CNN

Former Gov. John Kasich, R-Ohio, has been hired by CNN as a political commentator.

His first appearance on the network will be Tuesday night during “Cuomo Prime Time,” the network announced Tuesday.

A frequent critic of President Trump, Kasich, who ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, signed with United Talent Agency of Beverly Hills, Calif. — an outfit that represents many of the highest-profile pundits on CNN.

In a statement, UTA praised Kasich as “one of the nation’s most thoughtful and inspiring conservative political voices.”

“I’m excited to work with UTA to keep my voice active across the world and share my experiences and observations to help improve the lives of others,” Kasich said in a statement to The Columbus Dispatch.

Kasich was signed by the agency one day after he left office as Ohio governor, a post now occupied by Republican Mike DeWine.

Despite the career move, Kasich future remains in flux. He has declined rule out a 2020 run for president. His spokesman Chris Schrimpf told CNBC Monday “all options are still on the table.”

“Any announcement about a TV contract would have no bearing on his 2020 intentions,” Schrimpf wrote in an email.
