CHICAGO (AP) — The University of Illinois at Chicago’s faculty Senate has taken a vote of “no confidence” in the leadership of its outgoing chancellor.
University officials say the 44-9 vote in favor of the resolution against Paula Allen-Meares was taken Thursday. The resolution comes as the university is conducting a search for a new University of Illinois president as well as a new chancellor for the Chicago campus. Allen-Meares’ tenure in the post is scheduled to end in January.
Faculty members say Allen-Meares made recent changes in campus administration without their input.
The resolution says those actions have caused “serious damage to the campus community’s trust in the administration’s commitment to shared governance.”
It demands both the campus and university administration consult with the campus community and elected representatives for important decisions.
