Former President Jimmy Carter appeared at a charity event Sunday night sporting a black eye.
The 95-year-old fell at his home in Plains, Georgia, earlier in the day and needed 14 stitches above his eyebrow.
Despite the health issue, Carter still traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, to speak with volunteers and supporters of Habitat for Humanity. Carter’s 92-year-old wife, Rosalynn, appeared on stage with him at the Ryman Auditorium to discuss the homebuilding project.
He told the crowd that he had to make a visit to the hospital, “but I had a No. 1 priority and that was to come to Nashville and build houses.”
Carter, who recently became the first U.S. president to reach 95 years old, wore an Atlanta Braves baseball cap and had a white bandage above his swollen eye.
Videos showed the 39th president at the build site Monday.
