Sarah Sanders: Trump has ‘100 percent confidence’ in Wilbur Ross

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders brushed off a report indicating President Trump has been unhappy with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, and said Monday that Trump has “100 percent confidence” in him.

“He has 100 percent confidence in Secretary Ross. He loves Wilbur, thinks he’s doing a great job and has been a strong advocate for the administration and been a great leader when it comes to the trade discussion on steel, aluminum, and certainly his involvement in trade across the board with the administration,” Sanders told reporters during the White House press briefing.

Axios reported Sunday that the president has criticized Ross for trade deals he’s negotiated and reportedly told Ross during a meeting his “understanding of trade is terrible.”

“Wilbur has lost his step,” Trump reportedly told one of Axios’ sources. “Actually, he’s probably lost a lot of steps.”

In addition to being frustrated with Ross’s trade deals, Trump told the secretary of commerce he no longer trusts him to negotiate, Axios reported.

Sources also said Ross tends to fall asleep during meetings.
