DC bars to air Michael Cohen testimony

As Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former attorney, prepares to testify publicly on Capitol Hill, some bars in Washington, D.C., are getting their cocktail glasses ready.

Cohen, who is facing three years incarceration after pleading guilty to bank and tax fraud and lying to Congress. Before he reports to prison on May 6, he will testify before committees in the House and Senate on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

The only chance the public will get to see Cohen grilled by lawmakers live will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday, and The Hill reports that some bars in Washington are cashing in on the much-anticipated appearance.

One local watering hole, Duffy’s Irish Pub on H Street NE, has spun up a new drink for the occasion, the “Flipper Cocktail,” which according to owner Casey Callister will be “Russian influenced, a little bitter and 100 percent pardon free.” The drink will be happy-hour priced.

In addition to Duffy’s, Shaw’s Tavern on Florida Avenue NW is set to open an hour early in order to provide a place for patrons to watch Cohen’s testimony.

The Partisan on D Street NW, Valor Brewpub on E Street SE, and Boxcar Tavern on 7th Street SE all open at 11 a.m., but will be airing the testimony once they open.
