Ivanka Trump to headline New York fundraiser even as events canceled due to coronavirus

Ivanka Trump will headline a reelection event for her father in New York next month, following recent announcements of Trump campaign cancellations.

The invitation comes as events were called off this week in Colorado, Nevada, and Wisconsin due to the coronavirus outbreak. A three-day “Women for Trump” bus tour with the president’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump and other senior campaign surrogates was also suspended. As of Thursday, New York City had 62 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, with a state of emergency declared statewide.

The April 1 event will also feature campaign manager Brad Parscale, senior campaign adviser Kimberly Guilfoyle, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, and RNC co-Chairman Tommy Hicks Jr.

The evening event bookends a two-day stretch that includes lunch events in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Naples, Florida, all with Ivanka Trump as a special guest.

Trump’s increased participation is a departure from her more quiet role in the last general election cycle.

Trump claimed in an interview with the New York Times this month she could outraise former Vice President Joe Biden, recounting an event where she raised $2 million in one 45-minute sitting.

The Trump campaign, the RNC, and joint fundraising committees pulled in a combined $86 million in February, or a little less than $3 million a day, a jump from the $60 million they raised in January. The RNC has added more than 2.5 million new donors since Trump’s election.

A former registered Democrat, the president’s eldest daughter is a heralded surrogate for President Trump.

She is viewed, along with her husband, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, as a moderating force within the family. She has also advocated for paid family leave, ending human trafficking, and boosting female business owners.

The campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
