Sherrod Brown: White House looks like ‘executive retreat for Goldman Sachs’

Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown lashed out at the Trump administration Sunday, saying they hadn’t done enough for America’s middle class or for Americans who haven’t seen a rise in their incomes in years.

“This president — the White House looks like an executive retreat for Goldman Sachs now, and the president surrounds himself with that,” Brown said on NBC’s Meet The Press.

Brown is one of a handful of Democratic senators who will be running for re-election in 2018 in states that were won by President Trump.

Despite the heavy rhetoric against the president, Brown did find a point of praise, singling out U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.

“He is the best appointee in the Trump administration,” Brown said.

“I talk to him at least every two weeks. We are talking about [North American Free Trade Agreement] renegotiation, how we do it. We start off by — the preconditions for negotiations, starting with ‘Buy America’ provisions, with the anti-outsourcing provisions. I want workers’ voices at the table,” Brown added.

Earlier in the NBC show, Ohio Gov. John Kasich said the current class of Democrats hasn’t been able to find their own vision and slate of ideas to run on, saying they’ve strictly become the anti-Trump party.
