It’s “very possible” the same people who hacked the Democratic National Committee’s server have more than 30,000 deleted emails from Hillary Clinton’s private email server from when she was secretary of state, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told the Washington Examiner Wednesday.
“I think the average American is going to say, ‘Gosh, doesn’t them hacking into this suggest them hacking into Hillary’s private email server? And when do we get to see the other 30,000 emails, which the Russians may have?”
Republican nominee Donald Trump made similar remarks later Wednesday during a press conference in Florida, when he said he hoped Russia or other countries could help find the missing Clinton emails.
“They probably have her 33,000 emails,” Trump told reporters. “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you can find the 33,000 emails that are missing.”
Gingrich told the Examiner he found it “strange” that the Clinton campaign was quick to assume an “anti-Russian offensive,” and referred to past Clinton-Russia connections, such as uranium technology investments and Bill Clinton traveling to Russia for $500,000 speeches, as examples.
“I think you’re going to see in the near future remnants of how much the Russians paid the Clintons, and over the years, how much the Clintons did things for the Russians,” Gingrich said. He added that the corruption indicated in DNC emails will “make this whole thing look like it’s crazy.”
WikiLeaks released about 20,000 emails hacked from the Democratic Party last week, and while assumptions have grown that Russian actors were involved with the hack, Russian officials denied responsibility for the attack on Tuesday.
