As the chief marketing officer of JobFox, the D.C.-based employment search site, Kimball is getting ready to roll out new ways for job seekers to find the best positions. Why JobFox?
Searching Monster is extremely frustrating — it’s almost like a black hole. You submit your resume, it goes out there, and who knows if it made it to a hiring manager? What LinkedIn is doing is creating a social network. It’s fun, I’ve got 348 connections or something like that. As far as getting connected to the people that are actually hiring the positions that you want, it’s not an ideal tool for that.
So what does JobFox do differently?
It’s the eHarmony of job-searching. Someone goes in, they give us a fair amount of data on who they are, what their skills are, and on the other side the employer does the same thing. Then we match people on a skills-heavy algorithm we developed. It connects them to employers where they want to work based on their skills, and it hands employers the people they want to hire.
But how do they crack the inside circle?
We’re giving tools to recruiters at those companies. The reason these insider-connection networks work today and are held in such high esteem and are difficult to crack is because it’s all based on personal relationships. We are giving people the perspective they need to be able to belong to these inner circles. Networking is difficult; networking is not fun. This is taking all that and making it really accessible. Sorry if I’m being vague… we haven’t rolled out 2.0 just yet!
Is your HQ location going to be a boon to District residents?
Given that we are in D.C., our company does skew a little more heavily toward the District. But if you look at the major metros across the country, we’ve got coverage everywhere. – Lisa Gartner
