Food stamps: Initial August Colorado SNAP payment worth up to $1,691 issued in two days

Eligible Colorado residents who receive monthly food benefits from SNAP, the federal food program, can expect to see their first payment for the month of August in two days.

SNAP benefits are issued this month in Colorado starting on Aug. 1 and going through Aug. 10. Beneficiaries will receive their payments depending on the last digit of their Social Security number.

In the Centennial State, the amount of SNAP benefits depends on the size of a household. The maximum payment for one person is $281 per month. The maximum payment for a four-person family is $939. A household of eight could receive a maximum payment of $1,691. For every additional member after that, the program will add a maximum of $211.

“By providing more resources for food, SNAP helps free up cash for households with low-income to buy other essential items, like diapers and medication,” the Colorado SNAP website states. “As a result, retail sales increase, benefiting stores that sell both food and non-food items.”

The program issues monthly benefits on an Electronic Benefit Transfer card, which can be used at qualifying stores to purchase eligible grocery items.

Over 250,000 Colorado households and 499,000 residents benefit from SNAP, according to 2022 data provided by the government.
