A Timonium man was sentenced to more than two years in prison Thursday for defrauding a company of nearly $400,000.
U.S. District Judge Frederick Motz sentenced Patrick McDevitt, 38, of Timonium, to 30 months for wire fraud arising from a scheme to submit approximately $399,537 in false claims to his employer for reimbursement of expenses that he did not incur, prosecutors said.
Judge Motz also imposed a restitution judgment of $399,537 and ordered that 12 Rolex watches McDevitt purchased with the fraud proceeds should be sold to help repay the money that McDevitt owes to his employer.
McDevitt wasemployed at the Cockeysville office of SAFT America Inc. as a communications manager. From March 2005 to February 2006 McDevitt submitted invoices to his employer for promotional expenses that he did not incur and also falsified signatures on documents to make it appear that certain requests for reimbursement had been approved, prosecutors said.
McDevitt also has been charged in Baltimore County, Montgomery County, and York County, Pa., for purchasing additional Rolex watches using bad checks, prosecutors said.
