Despite leading his opponent among non-college-educated whites, Donald Trump’s unpopularity among minority voters has left him trailing Hillary Clinton overall among America’s least-educated voters, a new Bloomberg News/Purple Strategies poll shows.

Clinton currently leads the Republican presidential nominee 47 to 42 percent among likely U.S. voters without college degrees — a group that made up nearly a quarter of voters in the 2012 presidential election and one which Trump has relied heavily on for his base of support.

Among minority voters without college degrees, Clinton carries a 73-point advantage.

Meanwhile, Trump leads his Democratic opponent 55 to 33 percent among white voters who have not attended college. Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney led President Obama by 26 percentage points among the same group four years ago.

Both candidates’ favorability ratings reflected their respective levels of support among non-college-educated white and non-white voters. Seventy-eight percent of minority voters without a college education view Clinton favorably, compared to 17 percent who have a positive opinion of Trump. Among white voters who did not attend college, 53 percent view Trump favorably and 31 percent view Clinton favorably.

The same poll found that voters without college degrees are deeply concerned by Clinton’s mishandling of classified information (54 percent), while 56 percent said they were “bothered a lot” by Trump’s verbal treatment of women.

The poll of 603 voters likely to participate in the November election was conducted Sep. 1-6. Results contain a margin of error plus or minus 4 percentage points.
