Seniors take on strip clubs — for a while

A group of about three dozen seniors made the trek to the Wilson building Tuesday morning from their group home in Northeast to support a moratorium on strip clubs in their ward.

But the Ward 5 residents, sporting T-shirts that read “No More Strip Clubs,” had to leave before the D.C. Council took up the issue.

They had hoped to be a supporting force for Councilman Vincent Orange’s emergency act to prevent an influx of adult entertainment venues after a club was built in the area last year.

Yet when lunch time rolled around Tuesday and the council hadn’t moved past the first few items on the agenda, the seniors got up and left.

Many of them had been up since 6 a.m. and needed to eat and take their medicine, said Bob King, commissioner of their Fort Lincoln Senior Village. Plus, the bus to take them home apparently needed to leave.
