Kamala Harris: Voter suppression stole the Florida and Georgia gubernatorial elections

Presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., said if it were not for “voter suppression” in Georgia and Florida during the 2018 midterms, candidates Stacey Abrams and Andrew Gillum would be the governors today.

“Let’s say this loud and clear: Without voter suppression, Stacey Abrams would be the governor of Georgia. Andrew Gillum is the governor of Florida,” Harris said during the Detroit NAACP’s 64th annual Fight for Freedom Fund dinner. “So the truth is we need a new Voting Rights Act.”

During an Annie’s List luncheon in Houston last week, Abrams told the crowd it drives conservatives crazy when she says she won the governor’s race in Georgia.

The New York Times reports Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp won the race with over 50% of the votes. Kemp’s received 1,978,408 votes, with Abrams receiving 1,923,685 votes. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis won by receiving 4,076,186 votes. Gillum received 4,043,723 votes, or 49.2%.
