PHILADELPHIA — Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown made a pitch to working class voters on behalf of Hillary Clinton, saying that the Democratic nominee would bring jobs back to the United States, improve the economy and help the middle class, better than Donald Trump would.
“While Trump outsources jobs, Hillary Clinton has a real plan to bring jobs back to America,” Brown said to the DNC on Thursday night. “Trump proposes tax cuts, too. Three trillion dollars for millionaires like himself and $2 trillion for corporations like his. Of course, we can’t say for sure how much Trump will take for himself because he’s refused to share his tax returns with the American people.”
The Ohio senator was once widely thought of as one of Clinton’s top choices for her running mate. When Brown has hit the campaign trail for Clinton, he has focused on economic issues and criticized Trump for his policies. He continued this trend Thursday night, condemning the GOP nominee for manufacturing his products overseas.
“Donald Trump’s hats may be stamped with ‘Make America Great Again,’ but his ties are stamped with ‘Made in China,'” Brown said.
“The one thing we know for sure is that Donald Trump looks out only for Donald Trump, no matter who he steps on along the way,” Brown continued. “Trump says he wants to run our country like one of his businesses. I guess that means he wants to slap his name on it, make false promises, and then scam innocent people out of their savings.”
Brown will likely be a prominent surrogate for Clinton in Ohio between now and November, as Ohio will be an important swing state. Brown told the delegates, “As everyone in this hall knows, as Ohio goes, so goes the nation.”
