President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani huddled with a KGB-trained Ukrainian lawmaker in Kyiv who wants to investigate the Bidens.
Andriy Derkach posted photographs of the meeting on Facebook and said he pushed Giuliani to form a bilateral investigation between the two countries into corruption in Ukraine. He also said he planned to form an anti-corruption group in the parliament, according to the Washington Post. He is one of the “key figures” seeking to build a corruption case in Ukraine against Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, according to the Post.
“Rudolph Giuliani has arrived in Kyiv. We met up immediately to discuss the establishment of the Friends of Ukraine STOP Corruption interparliamentary group,” Derkach said in the post, which also said that an “American television company” filmed the exchange.
Derkach said he sent letters to top Republicans in the White House and in Congress, urging them to engage with him on corruption investigations.
“We sent our proposal. We’re waiting for a reaction, an answer. We’re waiting to see how much this is something that the congressmen and senators are in need of. If they want to work together, we’re ready,” Derkach said.
Derkach is an independent lawmaker who was previously aligned with a pro-Russia party. He is also the son of a KGB agent and attended the Dzerzhinsky Higher School of the KGB in Moscow.
Giuliani has been central to events that led to Congress’s investigation into Trump and likely impeachment. He believes that Joe Biden pushed to have Ukraine’s top prosecutor fired for his investigation into an energy company that Biden’s son Hunter was involved with.
Democrats, whose investigation was launched by a whistleblower complaint, accuse Trump of unduly pressuring and withholding crucial military aid unless Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky committed to investigating Biden and the 2016 presidential election.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday that the House would begin drafting articles of impeachment. There will likely be a vote on the matter before the end of the year.
