5 shot, 1 killed, in Southeast D.C. overnight

Five people were shot, one fatally, in Southeast D.C. early Saturday morning.

Police first responded to a call of shots fired on the 1700 block of 14th Street SE at about 2:30 a.m., D.C. police spokesman Officer Hugh Carew said. A male victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Carew said.

While at that scene, officers received a report of gunshots a block away, on the 1400 block of Ridge Place SE. Police found three more victims at that scene, and another person later walked into a hospital and said he had also been shot at that location.

All four victims survived, Carew said.

Police are investigating whether the shootings are connected. No one has been arrested and no identifying information on the victims was available.
