As it turns out, voter registrations in the District are like everything else in town: They slow down in the summer.
For the one-month period ending July 31, the city added 1,515 voters to its rolls. That’s a steep drop from the 2,262 voters the District registered in June. Since the end of July 2011, the city has increased its voter base by more than 19,500 people.
In July, Ward 6 again logged the most new voters, recording 240 registrations. Ward 8 reported the fewest number of new voters: 71.
The next D.C. election is scheduled for Nov. 6 and will include voting for president, D.C. Council chairman and two at-large council seats.
The ballot may also include a proposal to ban corporate contributions to the city’s political campaigns. Although the D.C. Board of Elections ruled on Aug. 8 that supporters had not collected enough signatures to qualify for a spot on the ballot, the group behind the proposal said Monday it planned to appeal the decision.
