The Judicial Crisis Network will spend $175,000 on a 10-day TV and digital ad campaign thanking Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley for “giving the people a voice in the future direction of the Supreme Court of the United States based on election results.”
The right-leaning Judicial Crisis Network said this is the first ad in a series it will roll out regarding the Supreme Court in the next few months as the Senate prepares to consider President-elect Trump’s potential nominee to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia. The new ad campaign thanks Grassley for helping halt the confirmation of Merrick Garland, President Obama’s pending nominee to the court.
“They said it would be too hard. A risky gamble. They said he would have to give in and approve Obama’s liberal Supreme Court nominee,” a narrator says in the 30-second ad. “Liberals attacked him over and over.
“But Sen. Grassley stood strong, protected the Supreme Court during a heated presidential campaign. Sen. Grassley’s been fighting for Iowa’s conservative values for years. This year, he led the fight for the rule of law and made us proud. Tell Sen. Grassley thank you.”
The Judicial Crisis Network spent $5 million on TV and digital advertising to help block the confirmation of Garland. Now, the Judicial Crisis Network is poised to help pave the way for Trump’s potential nominee alongside its allies at the Federalist Society.
Federalist Society Vice President Leonard Leo, who met with the president-elect at Trump Tower about his evaluation process of candidates for the court, issued a warning shot on Friday to Democrats attempting to stop Trump’s looming pick’s confirmation.
“Mr. Trump has a plane and double-digit victories where Senate Democrats are up for re-election. Obstructing his nominees will be a political loser,” Leo said.
The Federalist Society’s National Lawyers Convention is underway in Washington, D.C., this week featuring nine individuals identified on Trump’s short lists as potential nominees to the court.
