A Severna Park man is recovering after two men approached him as he was returning home shortly after midnight and fired a gunshot through his car windshield, hitting him in the shoulder, Anne Arundel police said.
Michael Allaire, 34, of Barrensdale Drive, told police he arrived home from grocery shopping with his girlfriend about 12:40 a.m. Thursday and saw two men approaching his car. Allaire became frightened and put the car in reverse to pull out of the driveway as one of the men fired a shot through the windshield, striking him in the shoulder.
Allaire drove to get help at a nearby 7-Eleven at 951 Route 2 North in Arnold, where an off-duty Anne Arundel police officer happened to arrive at the same time. Allaire shouted for help, and the officer called for an ambulance, police said.
Allaire was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
Allaire?s girlfriend, Heather Puckett, 30, of the same address, was not injured.
“We have no determination of what the motive was,” said Cpl. Mark Shawkey, county police spokesman.
Police don?t know whether the incident was a random robbery attempt or whether the victims were targeted. Allaire told people he did not know the assailants.
Police officers and K-9 teams searched the area for the men but were unsuccessful.
Allaire could not be reached for comment.
