Piers Morgan brushed off accusations by former President Donald Trump that Morgan made it look like Trump stormed offstage during a promo for an interview.
The English broadcaster made his first appearance on ITV in more than a year after his dramatic break with Good Morning Britain to talk up his very “animated and heated discussion” with Trump regarding the former president’s claims of a stolen election in 2020. Morgan addressed the controversy that blossomed in the last 24 hours stemming from an explosive 30-second promo that Trump decried as “doctored” to make it look like he walked out.
“He says we illegally edited an interview that hasn’t aired,” Morgan said in the interview on Lorraine. “How do you know? We haven’t aired it yet. It’s ridiculous.”
SCARBOROUGH: GOP ‘SPINELESS’ FOR BEING TWO-FACED ON TRUMP
Morgan said people should “watch the interview” and that it would not have any “duplicitous editing.”
The interview, conducted for Talk TV, is set to air Monday. Partial audio of the interview, released by the Trump team, indicates the exchange ended amicably and appeared to show that some quotes by Trump in the promo, including him saying to turn off the camera, were spliced out of context to gin up the drama.
The promo cost Morgan an interview with Caitlyn Jenner, who was scheduled to appear on his new show on April 27. Jenner canceled the interview and called his conduct “repulsive.”
“This is a pathetic attempt to use President Trump as a way to revive the career of a failed television host,” @TayFromCA …couldn’t agree more. @piersmorgan I have just had my management cancel my appearance with you for this Wednesday because of your repulsive misconduct today

Morgan also jokingly reenacted his storming off the set from Good Morning Britain in March 2021, leaving the set while saying he was “never coming back here” after weathercaster Alex Beresford confronted him for being critical of Meghan Markle.
When asked if he regretted parting ways with ITV, Morgan said his only regret was that the network “tried to make me apologize for something that I genuinely believed.”
