CB Richard Ellis tapped to lease Watergate office space

CB Richard Ellis has been named the exclusive leasing agent for The Watergate Office Tower.

The global commercial real estate firm will handle both the office and retail space in the building, which is set to undergo a major renovation.

The Los Angeles-based company, which does the leasing for a handful of high-profile developments in the region, was tapped by BentleyForbes, also of Los Angeles, to pull-in additional commercial tenants.

The available space includes 200,000 square feet of office space and 61,000 feet of retail space, including one of the suites from the infamous Watergate break-in.

Current tenants include Safeway, CVS and The Watergate Bakery. CB Richard Ellis declined to release the names of potential tenants.

The Watergate Office Tower is one of six buildings on the Watergate campus. BentleyForbes purchased the building last year as part of a strategy to build up its commercial portfolio in major markets and obtain high-profile properties.

The firm also owns the Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta and the Prudential Plaza in Chicago.

“Washington, D.C. is one of the nation?s top office markets, and the Watergate building is one of its most prestigious business addresses,” said David W. Cobb, president and CEO of BentleyForbes, at the time of the purchase.

“The underlying market fundamentals, stable tenant base and quality of the asset made this investment a strong addition to the BentleyForbes portfolio.”
