Report: Sanders in talks to nominate Clinton

PHILADELPHIA — Aides for Sen. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are reportedly in talks to allow Sanders to enter Clinton’s name as the party’s nominee Tuesday evening amid signs of unrest within the Democratic Party.

The move would send a powerful message of political unity between warring factions of the party as Clinton is formally nominated by delegates on the convention floor.

Sanders doubled down on his endorsement of Clinton in his speech Monday evening and made unscheduled appearances at delegation breakfasts urging his supporters to set aside their grievances and back the presumptive nominee.

But some Sanders delegates appeared to resist the calls to fall in line behind Clinton on Tuesday.

A Democratic Party official told CNN of the negotiations but did not provide details about what Sanders’ possible role in the nomination proceedings might entail.
