F-22 fighter jet crashes at Florida Air Force base

A pilot is safe after an F-22 fighter crashed at Florida’s Eglin Air Force Base.

The incident occurred Friday morning at the base’s training range. The pilot ejected from the plane, which had no other occupants, and is reportedly in stable condition. Eglin Air Force Base is located in Florida’s panhandle, halfway between Pensacola and Panama City Beach.

“An F-22 assigned to the 43rd Fighter Squadron, and part of the 325th Fighter Wing currently based at Eglin AFB, crashed at approximately 9:15 a.m. this morning,” the Air Force said in a statement. “The location of the accident was 12 miles northeast of Eglin main base on the test and training range.”

Additionally, the crashing fighter itself did not cause any civilian loss of life or property damage. The name of the pilot involved has not been released nor has the cause for the crash, which will be investigated by the Air Force.
