A new poll released Wednesday shows that a significant percentage of Pennsylvania voters believe the Phillie Phanatic is more qualified to serve as president than Donald Trump.
Forty-six percent of those who participated in a Public Policy Polling survey of Keystone State voters said the Philadelphia Phillies’ amorphous mascot deserves the White House more than the presumptive GOP nominee.
Forty percent of those surveyed said Trump was more qualified, while 14 percent answered that they were not sure about the question.
The rest of the survey focused on Pennsylvanians’ views of the three remaining presidential candidates and how that plays into local elections.
According to the survey, if Donald Trump were to choose former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum as his running mate in a matchup against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, 44 percent would vote for Clinton and 42 percent would support Trump. In that same scenario against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, 51 percent went with Sanders, while 38 percent sided with Trump.
In a question about Sen. Pat Toomey’s job performance, 29 percent approve of how he’s done, 41 percent disapprove and 29 percent aren’t sure enough to answer the question.
Democrat Katie McGinty, who is challenging him for his Senate seat, received a favorable score of 26 percent, unfavorable of 34 percent and 40 percent were unsure of what to make of her.
In a Senate election between Toomey and McGinty, 41 percent of respondents said they would vote for Toomey, 38 would go with McGinty and 21 percent were unsure.
The poll surveyed 1,106 registered Pennsylvania voters from June 3-5, and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.
