Five teenagers were injured this morning, two critically, after the car in which they were riding crashed into a tree in Ellicott City, Howard County police said.
The driver of a 2004 Acura RSX was speeding on Gray Rock Drive at Mellor Valley Court shortly after midnight when the car veered off the roadway and hit a tree, police said.
Two of the rear passengers were ejected from the car, police said.
Charles Knode, 16, a passenger in the backseat of the car who was not wearing a seat belt, was in critical but stable condition at Shock Trauma late this morning.
Justin Arnold, 15, a rear passenger, also was listed in critical but stable condition at Shock Trauma. Police have not determined if he was wearing a seat belt.
Michael Piotrowski, 14, a rear passenger, was not wearing a seat belt. He is expected to be released Saturday from Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Nikolaus Herstein, 16, the driver, was wearing a seat belt and was listed in stable condition at Maryland Shock Trauma. John Magwood, 16, the front passenger who was also belted, was released this morning from Howard County General.

Police are continuing the investigation. So far, there is no evidence that alcohol was a factor, police said.
