Republicans are pleased to be relieved of Scott Pruitt headache

Republican lawmakers said Thursday that they are pleased with the resignation of outgoing EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt.

Following President Trump’s announcement of the resignation, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said in a series of tweets that he supports the president’s decision to accept Pruitt’s resignation. He also said that while he backed the actions Pruitt’s EPA was pushing, it was “time for a change” at the agency.

“I believe the President was right to accept @EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s resignation, Graham said. Like President @realDonaldTrump I appreciate all of Scott’s efforts to roll back the Obama Administration’s burdensome regulations….but it has become increasingly clear it was time for a change at EPA.

“I have a lot of confidence in the Deputy Director and know the President will have many good choices when it comes to a replacement,” Graham added in reference to Andrew Wheeler, the soon-to-be EPA acting administrator. “I look forward to working to confirm a new EPA Director who will ensure we have a healthy economy and healthy environment.”

Some Republicans were more pointed in their criticisms of Pruitt, who will officially resign his post on Friday. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., retweeted the president’s announcement and argued that Pruitt, in fact, was a “disaster and an embarrassment.”

“Finally. Actually he did a horrible job. He was a disaster and an embarrassment from day one, and the country is far better off without him,” Curbelo said.
