Singer Sheryl Crow has launched a petition to dramatically shorten the presidential campaigning season. The celebrity-turned-activist told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly on Wednesday she believes the American people would “unanimously” support her recommendation.
“If this is an issue on the ballot, I’m sure unanimously people vote to not have to go through this again,” Crow told Kelly.
By Nov. 8, Americans will have weathered a 600-day campaign season. Crow said two years of campaign coverage does not educate voters more than a six-month season would.
“[T]hings coming out in the last couple of months. They would still come out in the last couple of months. That’s when all the bombshells come out is generally right before the election,” Crow said. “Instead, it has not benefited anyone, not been anymore enlightening and benefited the media outlets and political consultants and people that work on elections and Super PACs and lobbyists.”
Crow said the petition, if addressed properly with a ballot item in an upcoming election, could improve this one aspect of the political process. But the singer also wants the government to implement term limits and eradicate gridlock between the legislative and executive branches.
