A Baltimore man whose wife?s demand for a Jewish divorce launched a city protest said “false allegations” have been made against him.

“The issues are a little more complex [than not granting a get, which is a Jewish divorce, to Cynthia Ohana],” Ephraim Ohana told The Examiner.

“There are children involved, my children, and I?m concerned.”

Calling it a “messy, personal affair,” Ohana declined to elaborate further, saying he would rather issue a formal statement or set up an interview to explain the situation in greater detail at a later date.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Audrey Carrion found Ephraim Ohana guilty of abuse, voluntarily impoverishing himself and infidelity in 2005 after 18 years of marriage.

He quit his job so he wouldn?t have to pay child support, according to the Jewish Coalition Against Sexual Abuse/Assault.

Cynthia Ohana was granted sole custody of their five children in a civil divorce last year, court records show.

But, according to Orthodox Jews, a get is required for Cynthia Ohana to move on with her life and remarry.

Cynthia Ohana, rabbis and others in the community rallied Monday outside the University of Baltimore Law School, where Ephraim Ohana attends.
