LAS VEGAS — First lady Melania Trump said parents should be talking with their children about drugs when they are in third grade.
“I think eight,” Trump told conservative commentator Eric Bolling on Tuesday in Las Vegas when asked how old children should be when parents educate them about the dangers of drugs. “Nowadays the children are so smart, the life is such fast life and they have access to everything — the media, the technology. So they’re aware of it.”
Trump said she has spoken with her 12-year-old son, Barron, about drugs.
“I teach him,” she said. “I try to explain how drugs are dangerous. It will mess up your head, it will mess up your body. Nothing comes positive out of it.”
During her appearance, Trump also challenged the media to focus more on the opioid crisis in its coverage than writing about what she views as “gossip.”
“I wish the media would talk about more, and educate more,” Trump told Bolling, who lost his own son to an overdose. “They do it already, but I think not enough.”
