How I learned to stop worrying and love the bus

Montgomery County Public Schools is inviting you to love the bus. Know the bus. Be the bus!

On Feb. 22, the school system will host U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood for “Love the Bus,” a celebration of all things school buses and the drivers who steer ’em.

LaHood and U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen will join MCPS Board of Education President Chris Barclay and Superintendent Jerry Weast at Takoma Park Elementary School at 10 a.m. to “promote the school bus as a safe, efficient method of transportation for students at MCPS and throughout the nation,” according to the release.

Also in attendance? A real-life bus driver and “other local, state and national dignitaries.”

MCPS buses have been star marquee-material lately. Could school officials charge fees to ride ’em? Not after legislation was dropped. Can they outfit the buses with cameras to keep kids from getting run over? Sure can!
