The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is sending out 2,000 small green piggybanks to show its support for the Chesapeake BayGreen Fund, which would tax developers for building “impervious surfaces” near the Bay.
The foundation hopes to present 500 of the banks filled with coins to lawmakers in March.
All the money collected is slated to be given to the Chesapeake Bay Trust, which would also be the beneficiary of the $2-per-square-foot charge on roofs, roads, driveways and parking lots that create runoff.
The banks are available at the foundation?s Web site, www.cbf.org.
