Apple a ripe pick for tech buffs as FordSync is delivered

Attention Bluetooth and I-Pod lovers.

Ford has not only given some of its most popular cars a facelift for 2008 but has introduced FordSync ? a high-tech, MicroSoft powered system that connects mobile, MP3 and other technologies.

“They?re in the process of building awareness [of the system] in the target audience,” said Chip Doetsch, president, Apple Ford, Columbia. “This will bring devices together in the car.”

Indeed Ford?s system is a fully integrated, voice-activated in-car communication and entertainment system.

The program works with a variety of devices including mobile phones and digital music players such as the iPod, Zune, or music phone via voice commands.

The new technology is just one of the highlights that car buyers will find in many of Ford?s new models. Some of the others include:

» The Focus had a major facelift and is now available as a sedan and a two-door coupe. A new center stack houses the stereo and climate controls.

» The Mustang now has standard side airbags and high-intensity discharge headlights and improved interior lighting is optional. Buyers can also choose a “Warriors in Pink” package that includes pink interior and exterior accents. A portion of the proceeds benefit breast cancer research.

» The Fusion now has standard anti-lock breaks and a tire pressure monitoring system.

» The Hummer now includes a parking-assist system, interior lighting, and new colors. There?s also a Sports Appearance Package which includes many extras including a sports-tuned suspension.

The car?s extras combined with Apple?s “Customer for Life Program” will likely spell success for the dealership in the New Year. The program, developed about three years ago, gives buyers a host of extras including free oil changes and tire rotations and a special warranty for the motor.

“It is not always the lowest dollars that?s important,” said Laura Lower, VP of Apple Ford. “Sometimes [things are done] that are simply good business decisions.”

The “Customer for Life Program” offers those who patronize the dealership more for their money which is why the dealership?s customer return rate is so high, said Doetsch.

“Information is much more freely available to customers now than it was before,” said Doetsch. “By offering the “Customer for Life” program, we provide a value different from the car.”
