Suspect in NYC terror attack boasted about incident to police: Report

The suspect in Tuesday’s terror attack in New York City that left eight dead and 11 injured reportedly boasted about the incident to police from the hospital.

Sayfullo Saipov, the alleged attacker, made “no bones” about the attack, according to CBS News, and told police he was pleased with carrying it out.

Saipov, 29, allegedly drove a rented Home Depot truck down a bike path in lower Manhattan for more than 20 blocks in what New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said was an act of terror. The attack ended when the truck crashed into a school bus, injuring two adults and two children.

The suspected attacker then emerged from the truck waving a pellet gun and paintball gun. He shouted “Allahu akbar,” translating to “God is Great” in Arabic, before a New York City police officer shot him in the abdomen.

Saipov remains in the hospital.

According to reports, police found a note in the rented truck that claimed the attack was carried out in the name of the Islamic State.

Had he not smashed into the bus, Saipov told police from his hospital bed he would’ve continued the terror attack, according to CBS News.

Saipov reportedly moved to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010 through the State Department’s Diversity Visa Program.
